Default Two new designs (Still WIP)

Howdy ST

I've come up with two new possible designs for my website/blog/thing and would like some feedback. Please let me know which you prefer, what you like, what you don't like (and why) etc.

Love the first one, second one not so much; too dark for my tastes. The black-box dates on the first look kind of out of place, being just flat black whereas the rest of the layout heavily incorporates a 3D-like effect.

Number one is very very very nice

Only thing I'm not keen on is the way the 'boxes' around Willians.net and Twitter are, I think it'd look better with the wood flowing.

I guess. They don't really match the style of the top bar.

They were supposed to be transparent, but must have been my eyes playing tricks.

After a second look, I'm not really sure about the layout of each 'post'. May rejig that.

Ah yes, I noticed that too. Nice arrows

Anywho, here's the latest version (think I've decided against the dark layout - I'm bored of looking at it already).

I much prefer this version. The icons, the which backgrounds and shadows really give it a nice feel IMO. Looks better than the dark boxes which looked ugly.

good you changed with the 2nd version of the first i was gonna say about those boxes the least you should make the corners a little more cleaner (anti aliasing is it)

im trying to be picky now as i cant find anything to improve the second its very nice id just maybe make the edges less sharp on the bench picture and clean up the twitter text a bit although thats being picky like i said

2nd draft is 2000% better. Seriously. I love it. Can't think of anything to criticize.

Cheers again guys.

The only thing left (that I can think of) to change is the bars. Not sure whether it's the dark colour, or the rainbow. I'll see what I come up with.

It's very, very good. I genuinely can't see any flaws.

Good Work.

Ok, so I've tweaked a few things, smoothed out some corners, got rid of the rainbow effect (it just wasn't doing it for me anymore). I think I'm now happy with the general design.

I've also decided to have another play around with the backgrounds. I like the plain wood, but I thought I'd have a play around with some effects and patterns.

Original wood:

Dark wood:

Circles:

Squiggles?:

The two patterns definately give it a completely different feel - But I'm undecided as to whether I like them or not.

The first is great, the seconds good, and I don't like the third

This post is a few weeks old - I rehosted the images on imageshack (if you scroll up a few posts you will see them).

Anywho, my website is live now at: Willans.net

not particularly good choice of icons or typefaces if you ask me and the gradient at the top isnt very nice either, not much of a fan of the whole dotted line spaces thing either and your header could do with changing, just doesnt really fit with the website.
