Default The perpetual ignorance of BT...

...followed by the perpetual ignorance of F2S.

Ok so the a week and a half ago I phoned BT to get the name on the phone bill changed. They said it'd take a week and they'd have to switch the line we were on, but our number would stay the same.

A week later a letter arrives telling us the name had been changed and our NEW phone number was...

Reading this I picked up my mobile and tried to phone my house, the number no longer existed. So naturally I phoned BT to tell them what gitwizards they are and demand my phone number back, they say they'll try but it'll take another week.

Today is 4 days after that phone call and i've just found out that they've given my phone number away so now my family and friends are getting through to someone else, which is even worse than the wrong number message. So i've now got to stick with my new number and spend the next six hours changing it on everything.

To add to that, yesterday my internet wasn't working, I phone F2S and they've had to cancel it because the phone line it was on had changed, which is fair enough, not their fault. However they can't reconnect me until the 4th of September now. The woman on the phone said that on the 4th they'd email me to tell me how to set up my new internet connection, which is when I had to point out that I can't receive emails until the damn thing is set up, this left the woman and her pea sized brain slightly confused. I explained it again and she offered to send the details to someone else, so now my dad is going to have to phone me and give me several long winded codes over the phone.

...And all to get the name on a fucking BT phone bill changed.

That's ridiculous. Get on over to the DigitalSpy forums, and post this there. There are enough representatives from BT on there to have this sorted asap. Failing that, I'll try and get you the number for a managers office and threaten OFCOM. Failing that file a complaint with OFCOM.

I can understand the disconnection and reconnection of your broadband, but changing your line in the exchange because of a change of name is wrong, and is incorrect.

But it's too late for them to change my number back because it's already been given away. All they can do now is give me free phone service or something.

Anyway, I'm at a neighbours now and I can't stay here for ages posting on other forums and stuff, but if you want to post this on that other forum you can Gav, let me know what happens next time i manage to get online.

Either way BT will be getting a letter of complaint from me.

Hmm. Were you with a different provider before BT? Did you have the number ported over then?

Find out who owns the number here : Phone Network Lookup - if it's with a different provider, it's them you need to contact.

You -may- be able to get that number back, as long as you hurry. Failing that, you may be able to get a very similar one.

Also, are you sure the number has been given to someone else? They normally wait six months for that.

(Also, dial up isn't that bad - get it, no signup required usually)

Yeh the number has been given to a company in our town by BT. It only took them 4 days to reassign it.

It's too late to get the number back and pointless now. According to F2S it would have taken longer to reconnect me if we'd kept the same number than if we just connected on the new one.

Just make sure you file a complaint with BT. Write to the head office, not the customer service department, and send it recorded. You can also do OFCOM as well if you wish.

Unfortunately, the buggers have got themselves covered in the Terms and Conditions.

Section 36b says: "Occasionally, we may have tochange your area code or phone number, or access numbers"

Also, if you do get a temporary dial-up connection, don't forget www.slicedthread.com/archive/
