So yesterday I accidentaly pressed okay to some "XP Antivirus 2008" program, which installed and messed up my computer. Thankfully I installed some anti malware programme which deleted it. Today however, I go online, and my internet isn't working at all. I thought maybe my firewall was b********ing it, but my firewall says devices are missing. Whaats going on?

I tried doing that, but the only restore point in August was the day that it happened, right after I tried uninstalling it. It won't let me go back to july, is there any way? The arrows are blanked out.

Are you using Firefox? If not, try downloading it, see if it works then.
Alternatively, do the following: Start --> Run --> Enter in 'cmd' and hit enter --> Type in 'ipconfig /flushdns' and try your internet again. |

Aaaah this is really annoying now. My parents are like GET IT FIXED OR I PUNCH U. It's definately something to do with this Antivirus XP 2008 software. I've been reading up on google on forums and it does different things to different people. I think it's messed with the settings possibly? I've also noticed that whenever I try to load my firewall it says that there are drivers missing.
Some info: MSN Says "Invalid IP address- error 80072ee7" Network diagnostics says it failed to query TCP and IP settings for this connection. It also says that "This machine has more than one ethernet or more than one wireless adapter" It also "can't make a HTTP HTTPS or FTP connection" On my modem, all of the lights are on except the send and recv buttons - I remember they used to periodically flash. Is there any way I can give you guys info that will let you know exactly what the problem is?

Yep, when I did it it just made a new line and said "Windows IP Configuration". I'm guessing I wasn't typing it properly, because I tried the other options like display dns and stuff, and they didn't show. Maybe I'm being really stupid.
EDIT: I've just gone on a website to see how I can check my IP address, gateway thingy and stuff like that, and it told me to do "ipconfig /all" and shows a screenshot of what the results should look like. When I do it, it again comes up with JUST "Windows IP Configuration". That's not normal right? Another edit: I tried re-installing the internet, and during it, it came up with "DHCP Release/Renew failed - You have 0 Network adapter/s set to DHCP". SAY WHAAAT?

My sister was retardedly stupid enough to install that god awful malware. Did all sorts like change the screensaver and wallpaper to "WARNING - Your computer is infected by spyware and viruses, use an anti-virus".
After doing several scans and it not showing up much, I went on the hunt for it myself and I suggest you make sure they are deleted in these locations too. C:\WINDOWS\system32\ there should be a .scr file in there with a long and weird file name, that's the screensaver part of it. You should also go into MSConfig and delete the start up entries of it. It's not hard to find them as they have a long-jumbled-up perculiar filename like sdfhskdhfskh. Apart from that, as for your internet well of course it's not going to have flashing lights under send/receive because the connection is obviously buggared on your machine. What that most recent error message said was that none of the network adapters are configured to obtain an IP address automatically, so I believe. My Network Places > View my network connections (on the left panel) > Right click on the NIC you use to connect to the internet with > Properties > Highlight/click TCP/IP Internet... > Hit properties and make sure they are both on "Obtain an IP address automatically" That should be it I would reckon, I don't see what else it could be. Let me know what happens next after you do what I tell you. Calling the ISP was probably a dumb move seeing as it blatently is client-sided. Mind you, that horrible piece of malware never screwed up my mums computer's connection. Odd. I guess however, if its related to the internet they should really offer support and help over it so hell, I guess it doesn't hurt. |

Was that sarcastic? If so, wtf? Reformatting and reinstalling windows is the quickest and most efficient way of doing so. Back up your files -> reformat -> install OS -> install drivers -> restore files -> win. |
